Assignment: Read Chap 4 & 5 and do questions of The Great Gatsby

Objectives After studying this unit, students will be able to
  • read, interpret, analyze, and evaluate ideas and themes from a novel
  • understand the ways in which the novel depicts the Jazz Age.
  • analyze and understand narrator and setting.
  • To expose students to a different era of American life.
  • Students will demonstrate their understanding of the text on four levels: factual, interpretive, critical and personal.
  • Students will consider what it means to be successful and/or rich, and the responsibilities that accompany success and/or wealth.
  • Students will be given the opportunity to practice reading aloud and silently to improve their skills in each area.
  • Students will answer questions to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the main events and characters in The Great Gatsby as they relate to the author's theme development.
  • Students will enrich their vocabularies and improve their understanding of the novel through the vocabulary lessons prepared for use in conjunction with the novel.
  • Students will read aloud, report, and participate in large and small group discussions to improve their public speaking and personal interaction skills.
